Improving COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake among the African Communities in Windsor and Essex County
ICOVAC is an NSERC and uWindsor funded 1-year program of outreach activities to improve the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among African populations living in Windsor-Essex County. Members of the African community aged 16 years and above, are invited to participate in workshops aimed at raising awareness about COVID-19, and to correct misinformation around COVID-19 vaccines.
- The Purpose of ICOVAC Project:
To Raise African populations’ awareness about how they may be vulnerable to COVID-19. - To improve uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among the African population in Windsor-Essex County.
- Use social media influencers to engage, mobilize, educate, and increase uptake of vaccine uptake African population’s knowledge and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine.
- Raising African populations’ awareness about how they may be vulnerable to COVID-19.
- Use workshops to right the misconceptions about COVID-19 and the vaccines and decrease exposure to COVID-19 among African population.
- Build knowledge among African population, community-based organizations for effective uptake of COVID-19 vaccines.
- Use influencers to engage, mobilize and improve African population’s knowledge and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine.
